Erik Olsson and Marko S. Laaksonen, from the Department of Health Sciences, Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre, Department of Health Science, Mid Sweden University, Östersund, Sweden, published the article “Key Technical Components for Air Pistol Shooting Performance” in the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS IN SPORT in 2021.
Their study aimed to investigate the key technical components for pistol shooting. The researchers observed 18 high-performance shooters during a 60-shot simulation. They measured 17 aiming variables using an optoelectronic training device.
Out of these variables, 5 appeared to be more important:
- Aiming time
- Stability of hold
- Aiming accuracy
- Cleanliness of triggering
- Timing of triggering
Results from the present study revealed five different key technical components for air pistol shooting, namely aiming time, stability of hold, aiming accuracy, cleanness of triggering and timing of triggering. Four of the components, stability of hold, aiming accuracy, cleanness of triggering and timing of triggering, the two last one not reported earlier in air pistol shooting, were significantly correlated with shooting score.
